Working within the NGO sector, it became apparent that HIV/AIDS was decimating our people, and that some kind of sustainable intervention was to be set up in order to equip our people with the knowledge and skills to survive in this new life threatening environment.
To halt the relentless march of the pandemic, Malitaba cc decided to focus on educating people at the grassroots levels in order to create positive behavioural change. Workshops were organised with groups attending clinics in the townships, others were held at churches and at schools.
These workshops resulted in Malitaba cc developing a Workplace programme whose elements are used within the Government (Departments of Health and Transport) NGO (ACCT, St Johns) and Corporate (ACSA, Hewlett Packard) Sectors.
Malitaba cc has done pioneering work in setting up assistance programmes and has worked effectively with government, NGOs, Corporates and community groups (eg church, school). The course material prepared is a mixture academic work and local practical experience. The trainers and facilitators are local South Africans who have been exposed to living among those who have had to cope with living in an HIV/AIDS environment or are positive themselves. The trainers, on the whole are bi - or tri lingual, and can therefore relate to the language and cultural sensitivities of participants in the courses.
Our soft skills development work in companies uses a humanist approach that focuses on the individual and their learning style, to ensure that all learners are able to participate in the learning experience. Unlike other service providers, we draw on the individuals prior learning experiences; strengths and allow them to acknowledge their challenges, ensuring that individuals feel empowered and enabled and in so doing strengthening teams.
Malitaba cc, can therefore, tailor make training courses to suit the requirements of clients and their environments. Malitaba cc strives to assist clients in attaining the objectives and outcomes they set for their training initiative.
